This is rarely the case; it’s nearly always just lack of confidence. My one piece of advice for women of all ages, but particularly those just embarking on their careers – is that their good instincts and strongly held values should be the foundation of everything they do. Skills can be learned, experience can be gained – but our values are at our very core and if we use them as our compass, that’s where our confidence and our unique strengths lie."

Tess Swan, The Crown Hastings

Tess Swan is the co-owner of The Crown Hastings - an award-winning independent freehouse in the heart of Hastings Old Town offering high quality food and drink since 2014.

Tell us something that makes you proud of your business?

"I am proud of owning a pub business that hosts many fantastic female-led businesses throughout each week. Visit the battlefield, explore Norman castles and churches, or walk a trail that follows the same route as the Norman army.

It’s not all about history, though. The East Sussex coastline and the gorgeous countryside of the Sussex Weald, part of the High Weald AONB, are perfect settings for adventure and enjoying nature.

Visit a vineyard, spot birdlife in nature reserves, or take a thrilling RIB ride along the coast. Explore castles and country manors, or head to historic towns in search of museums, independent shopping, and great local eateries.

In this post, I’ve shared my pick of the top things to do around Battle, Hastings, and Rye in 1066 Country. I’ve also included some itinerary ideas at the end of the post, to help you plan your own trip. Whatever you get up to, you’re sure to enjoy exploring this incredible hidden gem in southeast England.

Fun Things to do in 1066 Country

1. Learn about the Battle of Hastings at Battle Abbey

As I’ve mentioned above, 1066 Country takes its name from the famous Battle of Hastings. Whether you’re British, or a visitor from overseas, learning about this crucial piece of English history is a real eye-opener.

Battle Abbey was founded by William the Conqueror in 1071, five years after the battle, as an atonement and a memorial to the dead. After the dissolution of the monasteries in the 1500s, the abbey became a country estate. Today, the main part of the country house – formerly the abbot’s lodging – is home to a private school.

Start with the Visitor Centre for an excellent introduction to the Battle of Hastings history – then follow signs for the Battlefield Walk. This takes you through the estate and around the actual battlefield. Wooden sculptures of soldiers dotted along the trail help bring the story of the battle to life.

Next, explore the ruins of the abbey cloisters. Parts of these buildings are almost a thousand years old! The church is no longer standing, but its layout is marked out in stones, including the position of the high altar – which is believed to be placed on the spot where King Harold fell.

Finally, explore the Abbey Gatehouse – which dates from 1338 and houses a small museum about life in the abbey. Be sure to climb up to the tower roof for excellent views of the surrounding countryside.

2. Follow the 1066 Country Walk

For keen hikers, the 1066 Country Walk is the best way to explore the area’s rich history and stunning nature. It’s a 31-mile long-distance walking path from Pevensey (where the Norman army landed) to Rye.

Along the way, the route passes some of the area’s most historic sites, including Battle Abbey, the Norman Herstmonceux Castle, and medieval Winchelsea.

The full walk can be done in two days – or three if you take it slow. But you don’t have to do the whole thing! The official guide breaks the 1066 Country Walk into 6 short sections, varying from 4 to 6.6 miles in length. So you can pick a section and enjoy a short, easy hike through 1066 Country.

I’d recommend the section from Brownbread Street to Battle Abbey, following in the footsteps of the Norman army and passing through the ancient Powdermills Wood.

3. Explore Battle

While you’re visiting Battle Abbey, don’t forget to explore the town of Battle itself. This is a cute, colourful little country town packed with quirky independent shops and eateries.

Start with a walk down to St Mary’s Church to visit the Battle Tapestry, a sort of modern-day sequel to the 11th-century Bayeux Tapestry, crafted in 2017 by resident Tina Greene and over 700 local stitchers.

While the Bayeux Tapestry depicts the events leading up to the Norman Conquest, the Battle Tapestry tells the story of how the town of Battle developed between the Battle of Hastings in 1066 and the founding of St Mary’s Church in 1115.

Next, hit the High Street to explore Battle’s fab independent scene. I highly recommend Rother Books (bookshop in a beautiful timber-framed building), BRITISH Design BRITISH Made (for arts, crafts, and gifts from British makers), and White Sails (for clothes and cute home furnishings)… but there are loads more great shops to explore.

Finally, swing by Battle Brewery to taste award-winning beers (I liked Fyrd’s Gold), along with other local drinks.

4. Wander the Historic Streets of Rye

The charming little town of Rye near the coast of East Sussex has become one of the most popular places to visit in the south of England. This medieval town is full of history and character – especially the famous Mermaid Street.

Start with a visit to Rye Heritage Centre to see the famous Rye Town Model – built by a local couple in 1973. The brilliant Story of Rye sound and light show brings the model to life while narrating the town’s history. A few local legends and ghost stories are worked in, adding a touch of intrigue. Don’t miss it!

Next, explore the picturesque cobbled streets of Rye’s compact centre. Mermaid Street is the highlight, home to the iconic Mermaid Inn, one of England’s oldest pubs. The main building dates from 1420, when the town was rebuilt after a fire, but the cellars date from 1156. It’s also said to be the most haunted inn in England, with regular sightings of spirits reported by staff and visitors.

Don’t miss the Landgate, part of the original city walls dating from 1329, or the picturesque West Street. Visit the red-brick Lamb House for a glimpse inside a Georgian townhouse with a rich history. Finally, be sure to climb the bell tower of St Mary’s Church for the best view of Rye.

5. Go on a Seal Safari

Craving adventure? Head to Rye Harbour for a thrilling, fast-paced RIB ride along the coast with Full Throttle Boat Charters.

Their Seal Safari boat trips (from £35pp) are a brilliant way to experience the East Sussex coastline – and get close to some of 1066 Country’s cutest residents!

Skipper Will tells me he’s never not seen seals in “Seal Bay” – so you’re pretty much guaranteed to spot some. A whole colony of grey seals hang out at the foot of the cliffs near Fairlight; on my visit, we saw dozens. The boat tours don’t get too close, so as not to disturb the seals, but you can still get a great view of the cute creatures swimming.

Will had some spare binoculars I was able to borrow – but I’d recommend bringing your own, and a camera with a zoom lens if you have one.

6. Step Back in Time at Bodiam Castle

Bodiam Castle is easily one of the most dramatic sights in 1066 Country – and an absolute must-visit! This 14th-century ruin is exactly what you think of when you picture a castle. A classic medieval castle with towers, portcullis, and a moat, set within the picturesque.

It was built in 1385 and fell into disrepair during the 15th and 17th centuries. Today, this evocative ruin is protected by the National Trust – so you can explore inside the ruins, and even climb some of the towers. The views of the gorgeous Sussex countryside from the top are unbeatable!

Bodiam Castle is also home to six species of bats, including the largest known roost of Daubenton’s bats in the UK. It’s the perfect spot for them: the towers are ideal nesting places, and both the moat and nearby River Rother attract the insects the bats feed on.

You can sometimes spot the bats sleeping while you explore the castle towers. While you can’t visit the castle after sunset, if you’re walking nearby you’ll be able to see them flocking from the towers to feed.

7. Take a Tour of Oxney Organic Vineyard

South East England has become well-known as a wine-producing region in recent years, and East Sussex is no exception. In fact, East Sussex is home to some of the UK’s leading wineries.

One of these, Oxney Organic Vineyard, was right next door to my glamping site in the Sussex Weald – so of course I had to pay a visit!

Although there are many wineries dotted around East Sussex, this one is entirely organic, so it’s well worth visiting if you want to try something a little different.

Founded in 2012 by Kristin Syltevik and Paul Dobson, Oxney is a gorgeous estate with 35 acres of vines surrounded by the tranquil Sussex Weald. You can visit for a tour to learn more about the organic winemaking process – and, more importantly, to try their amazing wines.

Sitting in the sun with owner Kristin, chatting about wine and the glories of East Sussex, was easily one of the highlights of my trip! I’ve tried (and loved) Oxney’s classic sparkling wine before, so I was excited to try the full range. The sparkling rose was my personal favourite – perfect for a sunny day.

8. Paddleboard on the River Rother

Paddleboarding is one of my favourite activities, especially on rivers and lakes. It’s such a relaxing, gentle adventure and a great way to explore the countryside.

Flowing gently through the Sussex Weald, the River Rother is an ideal setting for paddleboarding. Slow-moving, wide, and easy to navigate – it’s perfect for beginners.

Rent a board from Bodiam Boating Station (£15 first hour) and set off along the river for gorgeous views of the surrounding countryside. In an hour, you can make it to the bridge of the Kent & East Sussex Railway and back – if you’re lucky, you may see one of the steam trains crossing.

If you have more time (and energy) it’s also possible to paddle all the way to Bodiam Castle in the other direction. The friendly staff at Bodiam Boating Station will be happy to share tips for your adventure.

You can also borrow kayaks, rowing boats, and multi-person canoes – but SUP will always be my favourite! When you’re done, be sure to fuel up at Bodiam Boating Station’s fabulous, Scandi-inspired Lime Wharf Cafe. Menus change with the seasons and are always full of creative, locally sourced dishes.

9. Dine with Alpacas at Fisherwood Farm

In the heart of the Sussex Weald, you’ll find one of the most unusual things to do in 1066 Country. Head to Fisherwood Farm to meet their three friendly pet alpacas: Pepe, Ollie, and Ricardo.

Founders Nicki and Carol offer three fantastic alpaca experiences at their picturesque smallholding. A 45-minute visit, where you’ll get to feed the alpacas and meet all the farm animals, costs just £25 for a group of six – so this is a fantastic, affordable option.

But for something a bit more special, I’d highly recommend opting for either cream tea (£25pp) or afternoon tea (£40pp) with the alpacas.

I tried out the cream tea experience – and it was easily one of the highlights of my trip! You get the whole place to yourself, and a delicious cream tea with homemade scones served in the garden overlooking the alpaca field.

Once you’re done eating, it’s time to feed the alpacas. They’re very friendly, very cute, and VERY greedy – making for a brilliantly entertaining experience.

10. Explore the Coastal Town of Hastings

Nestled along the East Sussex Coast, Hastings is a bit of a hidden gem on the south coast of England. But this lively coastal town offers a perfect blend of history, culture, and breathtaking sea views.

There’s so much to see and do here that you could easily spend a full day or more exploring. Check out my friend Chloe’s fab guide to the best things to do in Hastings for inspiration! But if you’re short on time, these are the highlights…

Explore the cobbled streets of the Old Town, such as George Street, lined with quirky shops, galleries, and eateries.

Walk along the seafront: visit Hastings Pier, enjoy the beaches, and take a ride on Hastings Miniature Railway.

Take the East Hill Lift. Ride the funicular to the top of the cliffs for panoramic views and access to Hastings Country Park.

Visit Hastings Museum & Art Gallery to learn more about the area. Don’t miss the exhibit about Annie Brassey, a local Victorian lady who travelled the world by yacht with her family. An inspiration for female travellers like me!

11. Visit Rudyard Kipling’s Home at Bateman’s

No visit to the Sussex Weald is complete without a visit to Bateman’s, the stunning 17th-century Jacobean country house that was once home to the author Rudyard Kipling.

Dating from at least 1634, the historic property was bought by the Jungle Book author and his wife in 1902. It was left to the National Trust, who have preserved the house as it was left – right down to Kipling’s writing desk in his study.

Even if you’re not a fan of the writer, it’s worth visiting Bateman’s solely to explore the creaking old house with its antique furnishings and oak panelling. Then there are the lovely English gardens, complete with orchard, rose garden, and lily pond, which offer year-round beauty. If you have plenty of time, you can also go for a walk on the wider estate to explore the stunning Sussex Weald countryside.

12. Birdwatching and Bike Riding in Rye Harbour Nature Reserve

Most people flock to Rye for the picturesque historic town, but there’s also plenty of nature to explore in the area, too. Don’t miss Rye Harbour Nature Reserve for stunning views, great birdwatching, and an array of wildlife-rich coastal habitats including shingle, saltmarsh, and reedbeds.

Start with a visit to Rye Harbour Discovery Centre to learn about the local environment and the animals that call this area home. The cafe here even provides binoculars – so you can spot birds while you enjoy a coffee and a locally baked cake!

The best way to explore is to rent a bike from Harbour Cycles and set off on a ride around the reserve. They’ll give you a digital map with different trail options – don’t miss Henry VIII’s Camber Castle or the Mary Stanford Lifeboat House as you cycle around.

If you have plenty of time, you can even cycle from the reserve down to Pett Level beach – where at low tide you can see fossilised tree stumps and the wreck of the 17th century warship, HMS Anne.

Em Luxton stayed at Swallowtail Hill and Starcroft Cabins.

All images supplied by Em Luxton.

24 Hours in Rye

Thinking of a day out in Rye? This stay was her very first trip here and she wanted to ensure she enjoyed all of the main attractions!

Where to Stay

Mermaid Inn

Mermaid Inn

Rebuilt in 1420, The Mermaid Inn has been visited by Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother and many celebrities, and now Haydy! This was a huge tick off her UK travel bucket list and it really did live up to every expectation. She spent the whole time wandering round in awe, just taking it all in.

Haydy and her boyfriend, Mike, purposely booked themselves into the Elizabethan Chamber as the 4 poster bed and wooden panelled walls had won them over many years ago when they first saw photos. Little did they know that it was one of the most haunted rooms in the hotel, but as you’ve guessed, they survived their night's stay!

They booked a 3 course dinner, bed and breakfast package — as they really wanted to make the most of their time there and experience all that the hotel has to offer.

Mermaid St, Rye TN31 7EY
£310 (just rooms start from £150)
️ Elizabethan Chamber
️ Booked directly
Dog friendly rooms

Where to Park

If you stay at the Mermaid Inn, you will be able to park there on arrival until you checkout. The following morning, move the car down into any of the local car parks as they are close to the plans in this itinerary. Rye is all very walkable!

What to Do

Rye Heritage Centre

Rye Heritage Centre*

An absolute highlight of Haydy’s trip to Rye was the Rye Heritage Centre for their sheer wholesomeness!

Rye Heritage Centre is home to the “Story of Rye”, a 15 minute sound and light show featuring the famous Rye Town Model made in the 1980s by local residents, that guides you through the cobbled streets and hidden passages of Rye. It is incredible to see the amount of work that has gone into the amazing model, as well as the sound and lights show. The team recently had to strip everything back and start over and what they have accomplished is outstanding.

The centre is also home to a very fun penny arcade, where you can throw yourself into the fun of times gone by. You can buy tokens from the reception to get fully immersed. Haydy & Mike laughed, played and booed when it all came to an end.

Adult £4.50 / Child £3 - Story of Rye
7 arcade tokens for £1
⏰ 10.30am to 4pm Tues to Sat / 1pm to 4.30pm Sun
️ Buy on arrival
♿ Accessible

View from the tower of St Mary's Church

Church of Saint Mary

St Mary's Church is a stunning place to visit if you’re not scared of heights! It's possible to climb to the top of the church tower for amazing views of Rye and the surrounding countryside. On the way up, you can also see the mechanism of the oldest working church turret clock in the UK.

 Church Square, Rye TN31 7HF
Adult £4

Rye Pottery

Originally established in the late 1700’s, Rye Pottery is a family run business and is really worth a walk around. It may just look like a shop, but there’s so much more to it! All of what they create on site is designed and modelled by an expert team of sculptors, decorators and ceramicists, which you can watch happening. There’s something so therapeutic about watching pottery!

The Old Brewery, 6 Wish Ward, Rye TN31 7DH
Free entry

Rye Castle Museum *

Due to visiting out of season, Haydy visited the Rye Castle Museum's Ypres Tower, but not the museum's East Street site which she will be using as part of her excuse to return!

The museum tells the stories of the history of Rye which is fascinating, the amazing tales of smuggling and how many uses the stunning Ypres Tower has had! The views are lovely too!

Gun Garden, Rye TN31 7HE
£5 an adult / under 16s free

There’s also the National Trust owned Lamb House where Henry James, writer, lived but Haydy ran out of time during her visit!

Where to Eat & Drink

Knoops

Knoops*

Knoops is one of the greatest drink based ideas Haydy has ever seen; as a lover of milk and chocolate this combo is just perfect!

Jens, owner of Knoops, took some time out of his busy schedule to sit with Haydy & Mike whilst they drank iced milk and told them why Knoops not only tastes delicious but is a whole lot more than meets the eye. He had a strong relationship with chocolate since childhood and in 2013, he decided to share his passion and opened this first store in Rye.

Since then, the company has grown beyond belief. There’s now 10 stores around the UK to get your chocolate milk fix. But it’s so much more than just tasty milk, Jens carefully selects each of the chocolates used from the world’s foremost cacao-growing regions. Knoops works with only a handful of chocolate makers, both large and small, who are genuinely committed to improving the sustainability of their cocoa. Jens will spend time with the cocoa farmers ensuring there is no middle man, and there’s fair payment so the farmers and their families are cared for. Hearing Jens talk about how much care goes into the behind the scenes of being Knoops owner, it made it clear that he really is the King of Chocolate!

The concept is based around the carefully curated percentage menu which allows you to pick the level of chocolate in your drink, whether that be hot or cold, starting from 28% white chocolate through to 100% dark chocolate. After choosing your percentage, you can choose your milk, and add in extra flavours like sea salt, orange zest or chilli.

Haydy went for 34% milk chocolate, the dairy milk with a hint of sea salt which made the drink taste like liquid salted caramel! Mike had the 80% dark chocolate, the dairy milk and a hint of orange zest. Just so good!

Tower Forge, Tower St, Rye TN31 7LD

Cornish Bakery

If you’re looking for something quick and tasty for lunch, then the Cornish Bakery is perfect. With so many home baked goods to choose from, you’re spoiled for choice. The staff were also lovely which is such a plus!

86 High St, Rye TN31 7JN

Mermaid Inn Restaurant

Mermaid Inn

As part of the package Haydy booked, she was able to enjoy a 3 course meal in the stunning Linen Panelled Restaurant on site. You are able to dine here if you’re not staying also.

The local seasonal ingredients means that the menu changes frequently to ensure the highest quality dishes are served to guests. There’s plenty of options to choose from to suit every taste!

Also noted by Haydy during her visit was the locally sourced wines from Gusbourne Vineyard in Appledore.

Mermaid St, Rye TN31 7EY

The Globe Inn Marsh

Globe Inn Marsh

Heading out of Rye to head home, Haydy stopped at the Globe in Marsh for lunch after being recommended by a foodie friend and they were not disappointed at all.

The menu was beyond what you’d expect in a pub and the decor was wonderfully eclectic too! Opposite the Normanhurst Estate in Catsfield, once home to a world-travelling Victorian family, it is perfectly positioned on the 1066 Country Walk, just a short distance from Battle and its Abbey. Newly opened this summer, Starcroft is offering writing retreats, guided walks and history talks in this timeless landscape.

But here you won’t necessarily hear tales of grand Lords or Normans on the battlefield, as Starcroft’s owner Hannah is more interested in the women of 1066 Country that history has forgotten. Each sustainably-built cabin has been named and designed in their honour. We spoke to Hannah to find out more about ‘Matilda’, ‘Catherine’ and ‘Lucy’.

Hi Hannah! Can you tell us more about the inspiration behind Starcroft Farm Cabins?

Having studied history at university, and then gone on to work as a travel writer, the concept for the cabins has been a coming together of two of my passions. I wanted to create a one-of-a-kind retreat that would spark the imagination. So, each cabin is named after a real woman from a key era in local history and offers a glimpse into the lives of women during that time.

We wanted to offer an alternative take on local history. Traditional retellings of the Battle of Hastings often focus on the battle itself, and women are largely ignored - the Bayeux Tapestry, for instance, only features three women. In fact, even very prominent women often remain sidelined or absent in records throughout much of history.

Our medieval-themed cabin is named Matilda, after William the Conqueror’s powerful wife, and inspired by woodland folklore and physic gardens. Inside you’ll find a woollen cape and basket, as though a medieval woman has just come in from gathering herbs. Meanwhile Catherine looks at the pioneering plantswomen and explorers of the Victorian era such as Marianne North, an eminent botanist who lived in nearby Hastings.

We were inspired by the landscape and the history. Stargazing windows above the beds and birdwatching decks looking onto the meadow connect you to the natural world. The arched doors, carefully crafted by our joiner Tom, are a nod to the nearby Abbey.

The cabins have been infused with the creativity and skills of everyone who’s been involved, from our builder John at Wildly Crafted, who sourced the timber cladding from Powdermill Wood, just a 2-minute walk away, to Clair from Olive Stained Glass, who told the story of each cabin in three bespoke stained glass windows.

What can visitors expect when they stay at Starcroft Farm?

To fall asleep under the stars and wake up to the sun rising over the meadow.

It’s a great spot to rest and reconnect with nature… you could spend a whole morning just sitting on the deck watching the birds. We provide complimentary Bird & Wild coffee, too, which is organic, shade grown and donates to the RSPB.

Being right by the 1066 Country Walk, you can head off for a rejuvenating walk whenever the mood takes you. Lucy, our cabin inspired by the bohemian writers and artists of Sussex in the 1920s, is our dog-friendly cabin, so your pup can enjoy lovely long dog walks.

The cabins are creative hideaways, full of art and inspiration - each bedroom features a specially commissioned mural by a local artist. It’s the perfect place to disconnect from technology for a few days and spend some time lost in a good book, or maybe writing your own novel.

Each cabin has a fold-out desk with a meadow view. And we’ve teamed up with our wonderful local bookseller, Ian at Rother Books in Battle, to offer a Book Lover’s Bag - he can pick out a book according to your interests and it will be waiting for you on arrival, beautifully wrapped, along with some other Starcroft Farm Cabins treats. We also have a Starcroft Farm postbox, which you can post any letters or postcards into and we’ll make sure they get delivered.

Using local, high quality and environmentally-conscious suppliers is really important to us, and we feel adds to the cabins’ rich sense of place.

Where can we find you?

Our stargazing cabins are in a peaceful meadow in the High Weald AONB, 40-minutes on foot along the 1066 Country Walk to the historic town of Battle.

Within Catsfield itself, a pretty Sussex village which dates back to the Domesday book, you’ll find a friendly local pub, an excellent farm shop and cafe, and a village shop.

We’re also just a short drive away from beaches at Bexhill, Hastings and Camber Sands, not to mention some of the world’s most celebrated homes and gardens, including Bateman’s and Great Dixter.

Go to www.starcroftfarm.co.uk for more information and booking, and please get in touch by email if there’s anything we can do to help make your stay extra special.

Find us on Facebook and Instagram @starcroftfarmcabins.

Hannah’s book recommendation is Femina by Janina Ramirez

24 Hours in Hastings

Guest blogger, Squib Viscious, shares her recommendations for a visit to Hastings.

Using the Visit 1066 Country website, lifestyle blogger Squibb Vicious, also known as Haydy, planned a jam packed 24 hour trip to Hastings. The funicular railway even goes through a tunnel which is rather rare for these!

This journey on the West Hill Lift saves you walking up A LOT of stairs to take in some lovely views over Hastings seafront; you can see all the way to Beachy Head in the west and out across the English Channel. These smugglers helped the locals get their hands on items such as tea, silk and tobacco; not quite the things that pop to mind when you think of smuggling in this day and age right?!

Smugglers Adventure takes you through the smuggling caves where these items had been bought in land and stored. There are over 70 life-sized characters that truly bring the story to life. It’s such a fun way to learn about a huge part of the town's history without even realising!

St Clement’s Caves, Hastings TN34 3JJ
Adult £10.75 / 3-12 years £8.75

Squibb Vicious at the Shipwreck Museum

Shipwreck Museum

There are an incredible amount of artefacts on show at the Shipwreck Museum from many of the ships wrecked on the English Channel from the Goodwin Sands in Kent to Pevensey Bay in East Sussex. For Jersey, it's potatoes. For Scotland, Scotch Whisky. But what local produce do you associate with Sussex?

It's now official. It's wine.

The production of still and sparkling wine in the county of Sussex is now recognised for its excellence. From July, it enters the register of products that are geographically protected by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) with a Protected Designation of Origin status. This puts Sussex wines on a par with those from regions such as Burgundy, Rioja and Tuscany.

Although 1066 Country is based in Sussex, we have lots of friends in Kent and so we won’t get suckered into the media’s desire for rivalry between our two adjoining counties. We think it’s terrific news for the thriving viticulture scene across the whole of the South East. As it’s English Wine Week, we thought we’d throw a spotlight on 1066 County’s finest vineyards so you can start planning your summer visit.

Cheers!

Gusbourne Estate

Gusbourne is celebrated for its uncompromising quest for quality. Nestled in picturesque Appledore, the tasting room offers spectacular views out over the vines. Recently they’ve been partnering with Michelin-starred restaurants to offer the ultimate in pop-up dining experiences. They’re also welcoming Martino's Pizza back this summer for two very special days of relaxed al fresco dining set amongst the wildflowers of their Boot Hill Garden.

Don’t miss: The Fordwich Arms (24 June) and Restaurant Story Pop-Ups (16 September)

Oastbrook Estate

Oastbrook Estate is an idyllic English vineyard retreat set in the beautiful Rother Valley, near to Bodiam.
