About

The Olympic Torch Relay will be coming through Rye on Wednesday 18th July on its way to Dover. The torch will arrive in Rye at New Winchelsea Road just after 9.30am, the torch will go along Wish Ward, through the Mint and onto the High Street before making it's way down to the Landgate before heading onto Dover. Organisers want residents and visitors to share in the excitement of the relay and celebrate the achievements of the torchbearers.

You are invited to join in with local celebrations on the 18th July in and around Rye and to watch this special event and to celebrate our local Torch Bearers as they carry the torch. Following the torch relay there will be a parade following the torch relay route by Local School children from Rye college and outlying primary schools, school children will be carrying hand made decorations and will be a real spectacle for all to see. The parade will start shortly after the torch relay has finished.

8,000 inspirational people will carry the Olympic Flame as it journeys across the UK. Noninated by someone they know, it will be their moment to shine, inspiring millions of people watching in their community, in the UK and worldwide.

Confirmed torchbearers carrying the torch through Rye include the following individuals: Barry McDonald, Doug Evans, Jessica-Rose Gould, Marie-Anne Badel, Bazza West, Jackie Venn, Lauren Gander and Shuna Body.
