For the last 28 years, the Herstmonceux Castle Estate has played host to England's Medieval Festival, the largest and most spectacular in the UK. This year, the tradition will continue here although not quite on the same scale as in the past. However, it will still be a very impressive medieval experience set around our beautiful, moated castle.
Throughout the Bank Holiday Weekend there will be a morning artillery siege of the castle followed in the afternoon by an impressive large-scale battle between knights in armour as well as a grand parade.
A familiar face at the Medieval Festival, Devilstick Peat will be entertaining visitors with his unique brand of comedy, magic and circus skills. There will also be theatre shows, minstrels and drummers as well as music and dance. Living history tents around the grounds will offer a fascinating insight into the medieval world while reenactors will demonstrate their skills at a safe distance from the public. Horseback skill-at-arms shows and knights jousting to be announced.
For those visitors who don't just want to watch the fun, there will be plenty of opportunity to join in with a wide range of 'have-a-go' activities for both adults and children. These will include archery, axe throwing, blacksmithing, calligraphy, chain mail, copper bowl making and much more.
Medieval traders will be selling their wares and there will also be a wide variety of food and drink stalls available together with bars selling local ales.
