Please note: some major renovation work is currently being carried out on the castle and as such, the entire front elevation is obscured by scaffolding and specialist sheeting, In addition, public access to the castle is restricted to the tours mentioned below.
We are repairing stone and brick work, and also regrouting where needed. As such, the scaffolding will also be in place throughout next year.
However, the castle can still provide a stunning backdrop when viewed from other locations.
Take a stroll through the Elizabethan Garden, relax with a coffee on our shaded terrace or enjoy a walk along the east side of the moat and see a different side of the castle! Our gardens and grounds offer lots of seasonal variation for you to enjoy and when you are ready for some refreshment, why not pop into Geo's, who are running our Chestnuts café, for a snack, light lunch or afternoon - plus a great coffee!
For details of our popular History Walking Tours, please check our Facebook page. No booking is required and the tours are free of charge, although voluntary donations are greatly appreciated. Normal admission fees apply.

Signposted from A272 Road at Herstmonceux two miles east of village on Boreham Street to Pevensey road. Look for sign to Herstmonceux Castle on A271 or A27.
Due to Herstmonceux's rural location, it is not easily accessible by public transport. The Cuckmere Community Bus does operate a seasonal service (49) to the estate from Eastbourne each Wednesday. More info at www.cuckmerebuses.org.uk/ The nearest mainline railway station is Polegate which then requires a taxi journey to Hestmonceux Castle Estate.
