It's that time of year again. Summer is properly here and Hastings Old Town Carnival Week is upon us!
After being trimmed back in 2021, festivities return in full force this year, including the much loved Pram Race and the Bike Race!
This year the programme is jam packed with events, competitions, exhibitions, cinema screenings, walking tours and fireworks, all raising money for a good cause. Head over to the Old Town Carnival Week website to take see the full listings.
In the meantime, we've listed some of the most popular events below.
Head over to The Stade, next to Hastings Contemporary gallery, for two days jam-packed full of music and good times including performances from Soul Town (Saturday) and The Rockitmen (Sunday). Entrance is free and all proceeds go towards the RNLI, Pett Level Rescue and Hastings Sea Cadets. Music starts at 1.30pm on Saturday and 12.30pm on Sunday.
In memory of Jimmy Read, a Hastings fisherman who died in the Great Storm, the Hastings Bike Race is a firm favourite on the Hastings Old Town Carnival Week Calendar. Meet by The Crown from 5.30pm to watch keen competitors struggle to cycle the steep Crown Lane without losing contact with the seat. It's not as easy as it sounds!
The Pram Race is a pub crawl with teams decorating themselves and their prams to race around the Old Town's finest drinking establishment. The more elaborate the better! Head down to watch the revelry or get a team together to join in the fun.
Start: 7.30pm at The Cutter. Catch the race on George Street and the High Street.
Register your team at The Cutter by 2 August to take part.
The carnival returns with a procession of decorated floats, dancers and musicians. Starts at 5.00pm.
Fireworks will light the sky at dusk, spot them from the seafront as they ignite from Hastings Castle.
