The America Ground history talk

About

Where in Hastings is the American Flag hoisted every 4th July? Who were the squatters living in a local 'no-man's land' by the early 19th century? How did 'the America Ground' come about?

Hastings town centre in medieval times was a natural harbour. The present day site of Robertson Street and Claremont was once part of the shore. But the terrible storms of 1287 caused sea and shingle changes and in this 'Trinity Triangle' area created 8 acres of land.

In this talk by historian Ken Brooks (illustrated with large screen images of paintings and photographs of Hastings town centre), the story of how part of Hastings came to be known locally as the 'America Ground' will be revealed.

The talk lasts approx. 1 hour. Pre-booking is advised.
Price : £3 adults, £2 children.
