Hurrah! It's that date we've all been waiting for – 17th May is confirmed as the day we can reopen hotels, B&Bs, indoor hospitality and indoor attractions. Here in 1066 Country we're delighted to be welcoming our visitors back.

Avoid overcrowding

We are expecting our busiest year ever – which is wonderful, but has its downsides too. On peak sunny days you can expect major traffic heading into Camber Sands. Please consider visiting our quieter beaches such as Pevensey, Winchelsea and Bexhill, or heading inland to Herstmonceux

You could also consider coming on a weekday rather than weekend, taking the train, or parking a short distance away and arriving on foot. For example the car parks on Hastings seafront are often overflowing, but there is plenty of parking in the town centre nearby.

Bedgebury Pinetum, too, sometimes has to close its car park on peak days – consider Bewl Water as an alternative.

Plan ahead

Most venues, restaurants and accommodation providers currently require you to book ahead, so you'll need to be super organised this year – please don't just turn up and hope for the best. We're overjoyed to welcome you back, let's work together to make your visit a great one.

What's changing

Here's a summary of what is changing – and of course you can read the full details here on Gov.uk.
